A valley beneath a vampire’s shadow.
By evening, the mountains have disappeared behind cloud. Smoke rises from a cottage chimney. Somewhere farther along the road, a bell rings, and a light goes out.
This is Barovia: a secluded valley of steep roofs, deep woods and histories its people still live with. Count Strahd von Zarovich watches over his domain from Castle Ravenloft, while the Mists gather around the boundaries of the world.
Life continues beneath that shadow. People bake bread, mend fences, tell stories and wait for somebody to come home. Their ordinary hopes give the darkness something precious to threaten.
Beyond the last lantern
The roads connect settlements with their own ways of enduring. A closed gate may conceal frightened neighbours, hard-won safety or a bargain nobody wants to explain. An open door may offer a meal and a conversation that changes your understanding of the place.
Beyond the windows lie forests, cold water, abandoned buildings and paths that disappear into weather. Travelling means deciding what to carry, whom to trust and when to turn back. Castle Ravenloft draws the eye even when the road leads elsewhere.
The stories we tell here
I bring Barovia to the table through its people: the stranger who remembers your name, the family whose circumstances you can change, the companion who asks for help at the wrong moment.
Our stories follow what the party chooses to notice and protect. Investigation can uncover a way forward. A difficult conversation can earn an ally. A fight can become a promise kept. There is space for fear, laughter, stubborn affection and the quiet relief of reaching a familiar door.
